After the cold, snowy winter, April is the time of year when temperatures typically start to warm in Leavenworth. Average high temperatures average in the 60s and the spring flowers and blossoms are out. It is also the time for spring festivals in Leavenworth.
Saturday April 16th is the date for the Leavenworth Ale Fest 2011. It is the fifth year of the spring beer festival, which is a benefit for the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum. It features beer tasting from 20 microbreweries, popular bands, and food. It is held in the Leavenworth Fest Halle, the same venue as Leavenworth Oktoberfest. The event runs from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Tickets for the event are $20.00 if bought in advance at www.leavenworthalefest.com or $25.00 at the door. Tickets may also be purchased in advance through the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce and at David Rodstol, Inc. in Wenatchee. Active duty military members get free admission with identification. The admission price includes a souvenir tasting glass and three drink tokens. You must be at least 21 years of age to attend the Leavenworth Ale Fest.
At the event, there will be judge's choice awards and taster's choice awards presented to the winning brews. The bands performing are the Handful of Lovin, Cody Beebe and the Crooks, and Chumstick Liberation Front. Food options www.leavenworthalefest.com or $25.00 at the door. It was about an average snowfall year in the town of Leavenworth this past winter. However, the Cascade Mountains received above average snowfall, much of which has not melted. April has still brought snow and cool temperatures thus the mountains around Leavenworth still have plenty of snow on them.
